Just arrived in Istanbul after a long haul - I reckon it was 28 hours door to door courtesy of Singapore Airlines. In the north the skies were very black as we drove to our hotel. We had a leisurely breakfast - Nitsia, Thea, Colin, Brian and I - and watched the rain as it approached, the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia in front of the Bosphorus. It's the most fantastic view.
Well, the rain settled in and so have we. I took a brief walk down to the Blue Mosque, but despite the rain, it was crowded. It is near the end of Ramadan, so I am thinking the extra crowds weren't tourists, but locals paying their respects. The inside was closed for tourism, but I have no doubt it will be open before I leave - I have several more nights in bustling Istanbul before I leave.
Tomorrow it's down to Cappadocia! |

"I'm back" said Peter Eastway with great gusto! After a month on the high seas and visits to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia Island and Antarctica, there's a wealth of new material being prepared and to kick it off, have a read of Peter's blog from his time down south: Click on this link: Departure |

I've just returned from Orpheus Island which lies off the coast of Queensland, just north of Townsville. A long thin island, it is home to two resorts, one luxurious and the other spartan.

New Landscape MasterClass #3 Available |

I'm really enjoying putting these MasterClasses together. What I'm finding is that it's giving me a way to sift through lots of issues and experiences and present them, not just for the MasterClass participants, but for myself as well. The process of teaching is actually quite a selfish one because I tend to think I'm getting more out of it that everyone else!!
The sample MasterClass is getting lots of hits (click the link on the left) and based on the number of readers who have signed up, I think we're onto something that is worthwhile.

While I was in Papua New Guinea recently, I was lucky enough to see the Baining Fire Dancers. 'Baining' is the name of the people who do the dancing, up in the hills behind Kokopo which is near Rabaul in East New Britain. The performance is at night which makes shooting it a challenge unless you use flash. |

Do the New Zealanders treat the Australians fairly? This is a question we often ask ourselves, both Kiwis and Aussies! We love each other dearly, but when it comes to football, cricket or secret photography locations, there is always an air of carefulness! |
